Analysis of Lateritic Soil Reinforced with Palm Kernel Shells for Use as a Sub-Base Layer for Low-Traffic Roads

In tropical areas, palm oil production generates significant amounts of waste, including kernel shells. The use this waste in the civil engineering sector, presents a very challenging task. present study, lateritic soil (A-2 GTR classification and A-7-6 (9) HRB classification) reinforced with shells is considered. order to improve their performances, these materials are mixed using Fuller’s parabolic law. Moreover, experimental tests used characterize physical mechanical geotechnical properties soil. After characterizing matrix (i.e., soil) inclusions shells) natural state, it found that Avrankou’s has high level fine particles (56.6%), plasticity (PI = 21%) low lift (ICBR 17%); which makes unusable pavement layer. Results also prove mixture composed 39% volume 61% PKS CBR index equals 30 45% soil, 40% 15% lagoon sand 41 can be as sub-base layer for roads medium traffic, respectively.
